| Fast download time |
| |
This is probably the most important design element from the user’s
point of view. The challenge in web design is to create a visually
appealing web site that will not frustrate the user with slow download
times. |
| Ease of navigation |
| |
The second most common web site complaint is from users who cannot
find the information that they are looking for. Navigation should
be clear and intuitive, and allow the user to quickly locate the information
which is most relevant to them and their companies. |
| Clear and concise content |
| |
Explain who you are and what you do. Include a one-sentence tag
line that summarizes what the site or company does. It should tell
users what they will gain from visiting the site and how the business
differentiates itself from its rivals |
| Design for search engines |
| |
Search engines have the potential to direct a lot of additional
traffic to your web-site. While web pages may be visual, search engines
are purely textual. Populate page titles, section headings etc, with
words people interested in your site and services are likely to use. |
| Keep content updated |
| |
It is important to keep the content on your web-site as up-to-date
as possible. Outdated information either tells the user the site is
not being properly maintained, or misinforms them. |
